Utah Valley picks up 100-76 win at Idaho State

POCATELLO, Idaho—Konner Frey scored 19 points and Hayden Schenck added a career-high 18 points to lead four other Wolverines in double figures in a 100-76 win over Idaho State Saturday night at Holt Arena.

The win is the second straight for the Wolverines, who improve to 4-6 on the season. Idaho State falls to 3-5 with the setback.

Trailing 29-24 with 6:58 to play in the first half, Utah Valley closed out the half on a 24-4 run to take a 50-33 lead into the break. Idaho State cut the UVU lead to 12 points, 52-40, just two minutes into the second half, but the Wolverines countered with a 13-4 run to secure a 65-44 advantage with 12:56 to play. UVU continued to extend its lead through the remainder of the game to secure the victory.

"What our guys did tonight was really hard," said Utah Valley head coach Mark Pope. "It is so hard to have a losing streak where you're questioning everything about what is happening and then to put together a double-overtime win when you have no bodies left. For our players to come back here on the road and be able to be focused and really play together is a tribute to these guys, especially their character. I couldn't be happier and I am really proud of these guys."

Frey recorded his ninth double digit scoring game of the season, scoring his 19 points on a 7-of-12 shooting performance. He also knocked down 2-of-3 shots from long range and went 3-for-5 at the free throw line. The junior forward was just one rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards.

Schenck recorded his career-high 18 points on a 7-of-9 clip from the field, including a 2-of-3 mark from beyond the arc. He also went a perfect 2-for-2 at the charity stripe and pulled down six rebounds with three assists and a steal.

Marcel Davis, Jaden Jackson and Ivory Young each tallied 14 points on the night. The 14 points is a career high for Young. Dayon Goodman also came up just shy of a double-double with 11 points and eight rebounds.

As a team, Utah Valley shot a season-best 51.9 percent (41-of-79) from the field, while limiting ISU to a 40.3 percent clip. Utah Valley tallied a season-low seven turnovers on the night while forcing the Bengals into 12.

The Wolverines knocked down a season-high 12 three-point field goals—the fifth most threes ever scored in a single game in UVU history.

Ali Faruq-bey led Idaho State with a game-high 22 points. Ben Wilson and Geno Luzcando were also in double figures with 14 and 12 points, respectively.

Utah Valley will continue road play at UTSA on Saturday, Dec. 19 in San Antonio. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. MT/5 p.m. CT.
