Albuquerque, N.M. -- Utah Valley University had an early three-run lead but New Mexico went ahead in the sixth and pulled away late to win 9-3 on Sunday at the Lobo Invite. The Wolverines (2-8) got a three-run triple from

In the run-scoring second for UVU, an error prolonged the inning and allowed Andrus to hit. The senior outfielder connected on a 1-2 pitch to deep right-center, scoring
Jordan Schlehuber,
Greyson Bogden and
Zac Fuller.
That lead help until the fourth, when the Lobos (7-2) evened the game with three runs all after there were two outs and nobody on. Dan Collier's two-run double tied the game at 3-3. Then, in the sixth, Aaron Siple's two-out triple scored Dalton Bowers to put New Mexico in front for good. The Lobos scored two in the seventh, taking advantage of an error to plate two unearned runs, and added three more in the eighth.
Colton Thomson (1-1) lasted 6.0 innings and go the win for New Mexico. He struck out eight with all three runs he allowed going unearned.
The loss to New Mexico came after a 7-6 defeat at the hands of San Francisco earlier in the day. The Wolverines trailed 7-1 in that one before scoring five times in the ninth but came up just short of completing the comeback.
