BELLEVUE, Wash. – Seattle University topped Utah Valley University, 7-1, to take the rubber match of a three-game WAC series on Sunday at Bannerwood Park.
Mark Krueger had two of the Wolverines' (5-18, 2-1) five hits on the day and scored in the ninth on an RBI single to right by
Spencer Gothberg.
Brett Snyder and
Boyd Bell both threw scoreless innings out of the bullpen for UVU.
Four pitchers combined on the five-hit performance for the Redhawks (9-13, 2-1), with Tarik Skubal (1-3) picking up the win after tossing 6.0 shutout frames and striking out eight. The Seattle U staff struck out a combined 14 Wolverines on the day.
The Redhawks scored all of their runs in four consecutive innings, starting with three in the second. Colin Peterson's RBI single brought in the first run with a two-out, two-run double by Griffin Andreychuk giving the Redhawks a 3-0 lead.
After a run in the third for Seattle U, Andreychuk doubled again in the fourth and later scored on Sheldon Stober's RBI base hit. The Redhawks added another run in the fifth and led 6-0, with five of their 12 hits to that point going for extra bases. Seattle U finished the day with 15 hits with Andreychuk going 3-for-3 and reaching base four times.
The Wolverines continue WAC play on the road next week at Bakersfield with that series beginning Friday at 6 p.m. PT. All three games on the weekend are slated to air on the WAC Digital Network.
