EDINBURG, Texas -- A four-run third inning helped Utah Valley University to a 5-2 win over Texas-Pan American on Saturday in game one of a doubleheader. The win evened the three-game series on the final day of the WAC regular season.
With the Wolverines (18-32, 14-12) down 1-0 in the third,
Kade Andrus singled home the first run of the game before
Mark Krueger followed him with a two-run single to give UVU a 3-1 lead. The fourth run in the inning scored after a two-out error allowed Krueger to score from second.
Jordan Schlehuber doubled home a run in the ninth to drive in the fifth run of the day on a two-hit day for the junior.
Andrus also had two hits for Utah Valley while Scott Mercer, Cole Loncar and Clayton Haltom had two hits each for UTPA. Both teams finished with eight hits in the game.
Three different relievers combined to shutout the Broncs (20-30-1, 5-20-1) over the finale 4.2 innings with
Patrick Wolfe going 3.1 innings and allowing just one hit and one walk while striking out two to pick up his second win of the season.
Logan Hold entered in the eighth and threw just one pitch to retire the final out in that inning before
Kyle Valgardson came on to pitch the ninth and earn his sixth save of the year.
