SANTA CLARA, Calif. – Greyson Bogden went 3-for-5, homering for the second straight game, as Utah Valley University topped UC Davis, 10-8, at the Jack Gifford Memorial Tournament.
Mark Krueger had four hits for UVU including a home run while Bogden finished with three RBIs along with the game-winner in the seventh.
Â
The game was the second half of a doubleheader for the Wolverines (4-5) who dropped a 6-5 contest to Saint Joseph's earlier Sunday.
Â
The Wolverines trailed 8-7 in the seventh when
Jordan Schlehuber tied the game with a sac-fly. Bogden then drove in the game-winning run on a base hit to left that brought home
Jake Atkinson. Krueger's home run came in the eighth to give UVU an insurance run before
Kyle Valgardson pitched the ninth to earn his second save. UC Davis put the tying run on base and brought the winning run to the plate but Valgardson induced a fly ball to end the game.
Â
Utah Valley finished with 16 hits with
Trevor Howell matching Bogden's three-hit game.
Justin Erlandson and
Paul Estrada both added two hits for UVU.
Â
The Wolverines scored four times in the first when the first four hitters all reached and scored.
Mark Krueger's RBI single starting the scoring before
Spencer Gothberg followed with a double that scored Estrada and Krueger. Erlandson capped the inning with a single up the middle that plated Gothberg.
Â
Leading 4-1 in the third, Erlandson doubled home another run, scoring
Jesse Emery from first with two down in the inning. UC Davis scored twice in the bottom of the third to make it a 5-3 game.
Â
Bogden hit his third home run of the season, and second of the Sunday doubleheader, with Howell aboard and one down in the sixth inning to give UVU a four-run cushion, 7-3.
Â
The Aggies scored five runs in the sixth inning, with the first six batters all reaching base. UC Davis took advantage of a Wolverine error in the inning, getting a two-out double from Kelly to score two unearned runs and the Aggies the one-run lead.
Logan Hold (1-0) pitched 3.0 innings in relief and earned the win for Utah Valley. Cameron Briggs (0-1) was tagged with both of UVU's runs in the seventh and took the loss.
