PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State evened its four-game series with Utah Valley University, winning 10-1 win on Friday night at Bailey-Brayton Field. The game came a day after the Wolverines (5-6) shut out the Cougars (4-6) in the series opener, 8-0.

WSU scored in seven of its eight times at bat on the night and got a three-run home run from Cameron Frost in the fifth inning.

Craig Brinkerhoff had two hits to lead Utah Valley while
Spencer Gothberg drove in UVU's only run. Derek Chapman went 4-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI out of the nine hole on a 17-hit night for Washington State. Patrick McGrath and Frost both had three RBIs for the Cougars.

WSU got a leadoff double in the first from Trek Stemp before a two-out RBI single from McGrath gave the Cougars an early 1-0 lead.

Utah Valley tied it in the third after
Paul Estrada singled with one out and came home on a long single to deep center by Gothberg. WSU starter Ryan Ward escaped further damage and preserved the 1-1 game, striking out the next two hitters to end the inning and strand two Wolverines.

The Cougars used a UVU error to score a pair of runs in the bottom of the third and take a 3-1 lead. Then added another run in the fourth before the home run from Frost broke the game open.

Ward (1-0) got the win after pitching 5.0 innings and allowing one run on four hits while striking out eight. Ryan Walker picked up four-inning save, striking out six and not allowing a run on three hits.
Jackson Cofer (1-2) took the loss for UVU.

Game three of the series is Saturday at 2 p.m. PT/3 p.m. MT with rain in the forecast for Pullman. Sunday's finale is slated for noon PT/1 p.m. MT.
