DAVIS, Calif. – After taking the series opener on Friday, Utah Valley University surrendered a big seventh inning in falling 9-4 at UC Davis on Saturday afternoon.
Scoreless until the sixth, the Aggies (2-2) scored twice in the bottom of the sixth and then broke the game open with seven in the seventh. The Wolverines (1-4) would push four runs across in the eighth but the deficit was too big to overcome.

Jake Mayer and UC Davis starter Orlando Razo were locked in a scoreless pitcher's duel after five innings. Razo (2-0) pitched 7.0 shutout innings and struck out 13 while allowing just one hit and a pair of walks. After a leadoff double by
Jake Berry in the third, Razo went on to retire the last 15 hitters he faced. Mayer (0-2) pitched 5.2 innings and gave up two runs on six hits.

In the seventh, the Aggies had two players drive in three runs with bases-loaded, extra-base hits. Olson drove in the first three runs of the inning with a three-run triple to center and Briggs capped the inning with a three-run double to center.

Paul Estrada doubled to lead off and then scored on a base hit by
Nick Simmons. Berry and
Trevor Howell followed with consecutive singles to load the bases before
Trevor Peterson singled to right to bring home Simmons. Berry scored the fourth run when
Zac Willis walked with the bases loaded.

Berry had two of the Wolverines' six hits while four different players had two-hit days for UC Davis. The Aggies finished with 12 hits on the afternoon.

Kaden Schmitt starting on the mound for the Wolverines.
