OMAHA, Neb. – Utah Valley University was roughed up in the finale of a four-game series at Creighton on Sunday, falling 19-5 at TD Ameritrade Park Omaha.
The Wolverines (4-15) took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first courtesy of a
Jackson Overlund two-run home run. The Blue Jays (4-11) tied it with two in the bottom of the second then scored five in the third, two in the fourth and four in the fifth to pull away.
In the third, the first two Creighton hitters were retired before two singles and a double scored one run. After a walk, Riley Landuyt hit the first of two Blue Jays' grand slams on the day. Landuyt's home run made it 7-2 Creighton.
The second grand slam came during a five-run seventh inning, with Michael Emodi clearing the bases and giving the Blue Jays an 18-4 lead at the time.
Emodi finished 4-for-5 with seven runs batted in for Creighton, with the Blue Jays finishing with 16 hits overall including seven that went for extra bases. Overlund finished 3-for-4 with the home run, a double and four RBIs for Utah Valley while
David Modler came off the bench and was 2-for-2 with a double and a run scored.
The Wolverines will play at the University of Utah on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. MT from Smith's Ballpark in Salt Lake City before opening WAC play at UT Rio Grande Valley.
