OREM, Utah – Incarnate Word held off Utah Valley University to win the opening game of a Friday doubleheader, 6-4, at Brent Brown Ballpark.

Zac Willis homered and went 3-for-5 while
Trevor Howell also had three hits, including a double, and an RBI.
Jackson Overlund added a pair of hits and
David Modler had a hit and a pair of walks, but the Wolverines (9-19) stranded 12 runners on base.

Garrett Terrell went 3-for-4 for the Cardinals (15-16), who jumped ahead with two runs in the second on an RBI single from Kyler Genenbacher and a bases-loaded walk to Sean Arnold. In the third, Howell doubled and later scored on a two-out RBI single by
Callahan Moltzan to make it 2-1.

Both teams got single runs in the fifth, with Terrell driving in Arnold on a base hit before Willis led off the bottom half of the inning with a home run to left, his sixth, on the first pitch he saw.

The teams again matched one another in the sixth, each scoring two times with both taking advantage of errors in the inning to plate an unearned run. Arnold had an RBI base hit for UIW while Howell singled to left to plate
Trevor Peterson.

Jackson Cofer (1-4) took the loss for Utah Valley while John Shull (3-4) picked the win and Lance Moszkowicz notched his fourth save.
