DENVER – Utah Valley junior
Savannah Neuberger and sophomore
Adrian Jones have been named Western Athletic Conference Women's and Men's Track Athletes of the Week, respectively, for the week of April 16-22.
Neuberger, a native of Heber City, Utah, moved atop the program's overall 800-meter record list with a WAC-best time of 2:09.30 at the Mt. SAC Relays. In addition, she finished seventh overall out of 46 and her time broke a 14-year record held by former Wolverine Ayisha Inusah.
A product of Meridian, Idaho, Jones recorded a third-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the Mt. SAC relays this past weekend. In the race, Jones clocked a WAC-best time of 8:53.27 to move up to 16th on the NCAA West region qualifying list and 27th nationally. His time also marked the second fastest steeplechase time in program history, sitting just behind UVU's former All-American runner Trac Norris. A day later, Jones continued his successful weekend with a personal record of 1:53.72 in the 800-meter race at Long Beach State's Beach Invitational.
The WAC recognition marks the first career weekly award for Neuberger and Jones. Meanwhile, Jones and Neuberger join senior
Lexi Shaw and freshman
Anthony Ocegueda on the list of Wolverines to earn the honor during the 2018 outdoor season.
UVU will now continue its season with a five-mile trek to Provo for the 2018 BYU Robison Invitational held April 26-28.
