OREM, Utah – Seattle U scored runs in all but two innings while the Utah Valley University baseball team could only put up two in the bottom of the fourth inning and fell, 13-2, on the back end of a doubleheader on Saturday night at UCCU Ballpark.
The Wolverines honored their seniors prior to the game. The loss dropped UVU's record to 14-33 overall and 5-15 in WAC play.
UVU came away with six hits on the night including three from
David Modler and two from
Trevor Howell. Modler and
Ryan Eastburn both doubled for the Wolverines. Both teams committed one error.
The Redhawks scored four runs through six innings before big seventh and eighth innings in which they produced three and six runs, respectively, to take a 13-2 lead. Seattle's 13 runs came by way of 12 hits and nine RBI's.
Walker Ramsey took the mound and recorded the loss for the Wolverines after pitching six innings. Ramsey struck out six batters while walking three and giving up three earned runs.
Facing an 0-2 deficit in the bottom of the fourth,
Trevor Howell scored on a wild pitch and Eastburn scored on an RBI from
Jackson Overlund to tie the game at two runs apiece. Seattle U then scored 11 unanswered to win in eight innings via the 10-run rule.
Utah Valley will look to salvage the series on Sunday when the two teams take the field at 11:00 a.m. MST. The Wolverines will then play host to in-state rival Utah on Tuesday, May 15.
