Kaden Schmitt struck out a career high 10 batters and picked up his second complete game win of the season as Utah Valley snapped a seven-game skid with a 9-2 win over Seattle U on Sunday at UCCU Ballpark.

Utah Valley improves to 15-33 overall and 6-15 in WAC play, while Seattle U falls to 32-18 overall and 13-8 in league play.

Utah Valley got off to a quick start in the bottom of the first inning as
Trevor Peterson and
Trevor Howell hit back-to-back singles.
Ryan Eastburn then reached on a Seattle fielding error to load the bases. A Seattle balk advanced the runners, scoring Peterson.
Jackson Overlund then singled before
Paul Estrada knocked in Howell with a single to right field to give the Wolverines an early 2-0 lead.

Seattle U got on the scoreboard in the top of the third as Justin Mazzone doubled to right center before Dalton Hurd doubled to the left center gap to push Mazzone across the plate. The run cut the UVU lead to a 2-1 advantage.

The Wolverines responded with a run in the bottom half of the third as Overlund homered over the left center field fence to give UVU a 3-1 lead after three innings of play.

UVU broke out in the bottom of the fourth as
Callahan Moltzan opened the inning with a walk to first.
Jake Berry then grounded out to third to advance Moltzan to second. Peterson then walked before Howell singled to left to load the bases. Overlund then doubled to left center with two outs to score both Moltzan and Peterson.
David Modler then sent a three-RBI shot over the right field fence. UVU ended up scoring five runs in the inning to take an 8-1 lead.

Seattle U got one back in the top of the seventh as Jake Cosgrove hit a solo shot over the left field fence to cut the UVU lead to an 8-2 advantage. UVU then responded with a run in the bottom half of the inning as
Jake Berry hit a sacrifice fly deep to left center field that scored
Drew Sims from third to give the Wolverines a 9-2 lead.

Schmitt tallied a complete game victory on the mound, working 9.0 innings with 10 strikeouts. He gave up only two runs and five hits on the day. With the win, Schmitt improved to 4-5 on the year.

Peterson, Howell, and Modler each went 2-for-4 at the plate with Peterson and Howell each recording a pair of runs. Overlund went 3-for-5 with two runs, three RBI, a double and a home run. Moltzan was 2-for-3 on the day with a walk.

Utah Valley tallied 14 hits on the day with a double and a pair of home runs. The Wolverines limited Seattle to just five hits on the day.

Utah Valley will close out play at home on Tuesday, May 15 against in-state rival Utah. First pitch is set for 6 p.m. at UCCU Ballpark. The Wolverines will then close out regular season play at Sacramento State, May 17-19.
