BUDAPEST, Hungary – A pair of Utah Valley University wrestlers had their inaugural U23 World Championships come to a close on Saturday in Budapest, Hungary.
Tate Orndorff led the group by going 1-1 for Team USA in the Greco-Roman World Championship event, while
Taylor LaMont had his run cut short with an 0-1 outing.
Competing at 130 kg, the UVU sophomore Orndorff opened with a 6-1 victory over Deepak Poonia of India to advance to the tournament's second round. The Wolverine heavyweight and 2019 NCAA qualifier then found himself on the wrong end of an 8-0 contest to Turkey's Osman Yildirim in the quarterfinals. Yildirim then failed to make it to the finals by losing to the 2019 U23 World bronze medalist Aliakbar Yousofiahmadchali of Iran, 6-5, in the semis to end Orndorff's 2019 U23 World Championship run.

Taylor LaMont had a close battle with host country favorite Krisztian Kecskemeti of Hungary in the first round, but when it was all said and done ended up falling by a score of 5-3.
