The 2020 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships were unfortunately abruptly canceled due to COVID-19.
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -Â Utah Valley University track and field senior
Larry Still heads to Albuquerque, New Mexico to compete in the pole vault for the 2020 NCAA Division I Men's Indoor Track and Field Championships. Still is the second-ever UVU athlete to qualify and compete in the indoor championships.
Â
"This is a great honor to have an athlete represent UVU in the NCAA Indoor National Championship," said Utah Valley track and field coach
Scott Houle. "This is a sport that you don't qualify by winning a conference tournament or getting an at-large bid. You have to qualify by being the top-16 in the country in your event."
Â
Still qualified with a mark of 5.50m in the pole vault, setting a school record and a personal record. Michael McPherson qualified for the 2015 NCAA Division I Men's Indoor Track and Field Championship with his win in the heptathlon at the 2015 WAC Championship meet. McPherson set the school record with 5,546 points in the event.Â
Â
Still enters the contest ranked tied for 10th nationally. The top 16 athletes in the country are invited to participate in the indoor championships. He is also the only male athlete to qualify from the Western Athletic Conference.Â
Â
"He's a solid young man and a staple in our track and field team," said Houle. "I look forward to going there seeing how well he represents UVU."
Â
Still will go first in the event, which will be streamed live on ESPN3 starting at 5:15 p.m. MT on Friday, March 13. A re-air of the championship will take place starting at 7 p.m. MT on Monday, March 16 on ESPNU.Â
