Utah Valley faces #6 Arkansas in NCAA Tournament Second Round on Saturday

UTAH VALLEY DEFEATS MEMPHIS, ADVANCES TO NCAA SECOND ROUND TO TAKE ON SIXTH OVERALL SEED ARKANSAS
Utah Valley moves on to the second round of the NCAA Tournament to take on sixth overall seed Arkansas on Saturday, May 1, at Johnson Stadium in Greenville, North Carolina. The Wolverines picked up their first-ever NCAA Tournament win with a 1-0 shutout victory over Memphis on Wednesday. Kickoff for UVU's second round game against Arkansas is set for 2 p.m. (MT).

Utah Valley has a nine-match unbeaten streak. The Wolverines have not lost a match since dropping a 4-1 decision at No. 17 BYU on March 17.

UVU earned the Western Athletic Conference's automatic bid into this season's NCAA Tournament after winning the league's tournament title in Phoenix, Arizona. The Wolverines earned the No. 1 seed and a first round bye at the tournament and advanced past New Mexico State on PKs in the semifinal before defeating Seattle U, 1-0, for the title. UVU is the first team in any sport in school history to win both a WAC regular season title and a WAC Tournament title in the same year.

The Wolverines make their third appearance in the past six years in the NCAA Tournament after capturing its third WAC Tournament Championship. The title earned Utah Valley its third trip to the NCAA Tournament in team history and its second showing at the tournament under head coach Chris Lemay. UVU has made NCAA Tournament appearances in 2015, 2017, and now 2020-21.
 
Arkansas received the No. 6 overall seed and a first-round bye into the NCAA Tournament. The team enters Saturday's match against the Wolverines with an 11-3-0 overall record. Arkansas played its Southeastern Conference schedule in the fall, going 9-2 to claim its second-straight league title. The team then played three non-conference games this spring, going 2-1. The Razorbacks most recently defeated Arkansas State, 2-1, in an exhibition match on April 10. Arkansas took a 2-1 win at Arkansas State in its last official match on March 20.

UVU AT THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
This NCAA Tournament appearance is UVU's third showing in the last six years. After Wednesday's 1-0 win over Memphis, UVU holds an all-time 1-2 record at the Tournament. UVU made its first trip to the tournament in 2015, dropping a 1-0 decision at crosstown rival BYU in the first round. UVU fell 9-1 at eventual national champion Stanford in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.

ABOUT ARKANSAS

Sophomore forward Anna Podojil, who earned SEC Forward of the Year this season,leads the team in shots (46), shots on goal (31), goals (7), assists (9), and points (23). Senior forward Parker Goins and redshirt senior midfielder Kayla McKeon each have six goals, while freshman forward/midfielder Ava Tankersley has four. The Razorbacks have 12 different players that have scored a goal. Taylor Beitz leads the team in the box with a 7-2 record. She has 33 saves. As a team, Arkansas has 34 goals while allowing 19. The team has just two shutouts.

SERIES HISTORY VS. ARKANSAS, SEC
Utah Valley and Arkansas will meet on the pitch for the first time on Saturday. The Wolverines have played only one team from the Southeastern Conference as the team took on Texas A&M in 2017. UVU dropped that match, 1-0, in College Station, Texas.

UTAH VALLEY SHUTS OUT MEMPHIS 1-0 TO CLAIM FIRST-EVER NCAA TOURNAMENT VICTORY
Sadie Brockbank fired a shot into the back of the net in the 60th minute to lift the Utah Valley women's soccer team to a 1-0 shutout win over Memphis in the first round of the NCAA Tournament on Wednesday at Johnson Stadium. The win marks the first-ever NCAA Tournament team victory in any sport in UVU Athletics history.

The Wolverines took the lead in the 60th minute as Julianna Carter sent the ball to Amber Tripp who then sent it into the box where Brockbank popped it over the Memphis keeper and into the back of the net for the score. The goal is the sixth goal of the season for Brockbank. It is the second goal scored in UVU's NCAA Tournament history. Isabel Jones-Dawe and the UVU defense claim the team's 11th shutout of the season. Jones-Dawe tallied five saves in the 90 minutes.
 
Memphis (8-4) outshot Utah Valley 14-7 on the day, but the Wolverines won the shots on goal battle, 5-4. Heather Stainbrook and Brockbank led UVU with three shots each. Tripp also had a shot.

UVU TEAM LEADERS
Through its 21 matches this season, Sadie Brockbank leads the Wolverines in points (17), goals (6), assists (5), shots (83), and shots on goal (45). Brockbank ranks 15th nationally in shots per game (4.15) and 15th in the nation in shots on goal per game (2.25). Heather Stainbrook and Jenna Shepherd ranks second in scoring with five goals each, followed by Julianna Carter, Anna Pickering, and London Miller with four each. UVU has 11 players that have scored a goal, including 10 different players that have scored multiple goals this season. Stainbrook leads the team with three game-winning goals. Isabel Jones-Dawe leads the team in the box with an 11-4-4 record. She has recorded 59 saves and owns an .787 save percentage. She holds a goals allowed average of 0.87 and has seven solo shutouts and a pair of combined shutouts.
