OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University head softball coach
Stacy May-Johnson has announced her resignation and will take the same position at Fresno State.
May-Johnson has led Utah Valley for the past two seasons including the program's best start at the NCAA Division I level during the COVID-shortened 2020 campaign. That team started 12-4 before finishing the season at 12-7 overall. She finishes at UVU with a 36-35 (.507) overall record.
"We're grateful for Coach May-Johnson's time here in Orem and her contribution to the program. While we're sad to see her go, we wish her and her family the best at Fresno State," said UVU Director of Athletics
Dr. Jared Sumsion. "She's leaving Utah Valley softball in a good place and we're excited for the future of this program and committed to furthering the athletic and academic success of our softball student-athletes."
"I want to thank Jared Sumsion,
Adam Sanft, and all of the Utah Valley leadership for my time here," May-Johnson said. "Most of all I want to thank our student-athletes. They made this experience incredible, and I feel so blessed to have been their coach."
This past season the Wolverines finished 24-28 overall and 8-10 in Western Athletic Conference play, good for fourth in the league. UVU also knocked off top seed New Mexico State in the opening round of the WAC Tournament, the program's first tournament win since 2018.
Under May-Johnson, the Wolverines had seven All-WAC performers in 2021, led by first-team pick
Linnah Rebolledo. Utah Valley also had 21 Academic All-WAC selections during May-Johnson's two seasons at the helm.
A national search is underway for the program's next head coach, its sixth at the NCAA Division I level. To apply, please send your resume and materials to Senior Associate Athletic Director
