Utah Valley to play New Mexico State for WAC Tournament title on Sunday in Seattle

UVU SET TO TAKE ON NO. 3 NEW MEXICO STATE IN WAC TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH

Utah Valley will play New Mexico State for the 2022 WAC Tournament championship on Sunday afternoon at Championship Field in Seattle, Wash. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (MT)

Faith Webber scored a pair of goals, including the game winner to lead the Utah Valley comeback over Grand Canyon, 3-2 (2OT), in the semifinals of the WAC Tournament on Friday night in windy conditions at Championship Field. Jenna Shepherd also found the back of the net in the win over the Lopes. 

Faith Webber leads the Wolverines in scoring this season with 14 goals and 35 points. Heather Stainbrook also has double digit goals with 13. Julianna Carter has nine goals, while Hannah Lee and Sydney Bushman each have four. 12 different players have scored a goal for the Wolverines this season. Lee fronts the team with 12 assists. Webber leads the team in shots (94) and shots on goal (49). Leah Wolf leads UVU with seven wins in the box, while Idalia Serrano has six. Wolf leads UVU with a 0.99 goals against average. Serrano leads the Wolverines with 33 saves. 

BROADCAST INFO FOR SUNDAY'S WAC TOURNEY TITLE MATCH
Sunday's match against New Mexico State will be broadcast live on ESPN+.  Andrew Harvey and Stephanie Verdoia will be handling the play-by-play and color duties. ESPN+ is available on the ESPN app and online at ESPNplus.com.

ABOUT NEW MEXICO STATE
New Mexico State enters Sunday's match against the Wolverines with a 12-4-3 overall record. The Aggies finished third in the WAC this season with a 7-2-2 record. NM State defeated California Baptist, 1-0, in double overtime in the first round of the WAC Tournament before downing host Seattle U, 1-0, on Friday. The Aggies will be playing in their third match in five Days on Sunday. NM State will be playing in its first-ever WAC Championship match. Tati Jerman scored her first career goal (the game winner) after the Aggies were awarded a penalty kick in the final minute of regulation against Seattle U on Friday. This year's NM State is the winningest team in program history, surpassing the 2009 team for most wins in a season. Loma McNeese leads the team in scoring at nine goals and 23 points. Bianca Chacon follows closely behind with five goals and 17 points. Makenna Gottschalk leads the team in the box with 12 wins, including 10 shutouts and a 0.78 goals against average. She has allowed just 15 goals in 19 matches. 

SERIES HISTORY VS. NM STATE
Utah Valley and New Mexico State will meet up on the pitch for the 15th time on Friday night. Utah Valley has never dropped a game to the Aggies as the team holds a 10-0-4 all-time series lead. UVU is 1-0-1 all-time against NMSU at the WAC Tournament. The two teams last met at the WAC Tournament on April 15, 2021 with the two teams playing to a 1-1 double overtime tie before UVU advanced past the Aggies on penalty kicks, 4-3. UVU tied NM State 1-1 during WAC play this season in Las Cruces on Sept. 16. 

COMEBACK KIDS!
Utah Valley has recorded four come-from-behind wins this season.Utah Valley's first comeback of the season came in a 4-2 win over No. 13 BYU (Sept. 10). After falling behind 1-0 in the fifth minute, Utah Valley scored three first-half goals and another late in the second half to defeat the Cougars, 4-2. In what was the most improbable comeback of the season, Utah Valley fell behind 3-0 in the second half at home against California Baptist (Sept. 30) before scoring four unanswered goals in a 32-minute span to defeat the Lancers, 4-3. Utah Valley fell behind 1-0 at Grand Canyon (Oct. 2) at halftime before scoring two second-half goals to defeat the Lopes, 3-2. The Wolverines then overcame a 2-0 halftime deficit to Grand Canyon in the WAC Tournament semifinal (Nov. 4) to win in double overtime, 3-2. UVU scored three unanswered goals, including two in the second half to win in double overtime, 3-2. Webber recorded a brace, including the game winner in the 108th minute to secure the comeback win.

With its 3-2 come-from-behind WAC Tournament semifinal win on Friday night over Grand Canyon, Utah Valley extended its win streak to seven matches. The Wolverines have not dropped a game since falling 3-0 at Seattle U on Oct. 8. Its been 27 days since UVU last dropped a game. UVU has also won nine of its last 10 matches.

WOLVERINES HEAD TO WAC TOURNAMENT TITLE MATCH FOR FIFTH TIME IN LAST SIX YEARS
Utah Valley will play in its sixth WAC Tournament title match on Sunday. The Wolverines are playing in their fifth WAC Tournament championship match over the last six years.

UVU TIES SCHOOL RECORD FOR WINS IN A SEASON
Utah Valley defeated Grand Canyon, 3-2, in double overtime on Nov. 4 in the semifinals of the WAC Tournament to improve to 14-3-3 overall on the season. The 14 wins ties the school record for wins in a season with the 2015 team, which went 14-7-1. A win over NM State on Sunday would give the Wolverines the school record at 15. 

UTAH VALLEY WINS WAC REGULAR SEASON TITLE
Utah Valley defeated in-state foe Utah Tech in the Old Hammer Rivalry, 2-0, on Oct. 29 at Clyde Field to claim the Western Athletic Conference regular season title.

With the win, Utah Valley wrapped up regular season play with an 13-3-3 overall record and an 8-1-1 mark in WAC play. UVU picked up the win over the Trailblazers on senior night as Hailey Hillock, Julianna Carter, Megan Sullivan, and Madeline Moore were honored in a ceremony prior to kickoff. UVU finished atop the WAC regular season standings with an 8-1-1 record (28 points), followed by Seattle U at 8-1-2 (26 points). NM State finished third at 7-2-2 (23 points). 

UTAH VALLEY RECEIVING VOTES IN UNITED SOCCER COACHES TOP-25 POLL
Utah Valley is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches Top-25 national poll for the first time in school history.

The Wolverines hold the second-highest point tally of others receiving votes with seven, just behind Xavier at 13 points. UVU is one of 11 teams on the others receiving votes list. UVU is just two spots away from breaking into the top-25. 

Utah Valley has played three teams that are currently in the top-25 and holds a 1-1-1 record in those games. The Wolverines dropped a 4-1 decision to Alabama on Sept. 6. The Crimson Tide is ranked No. 3 in the poll. UVU defeated BYU 4-2 on Sept. 10 in Provo. BYU is currently ranked No. 15 in the poll. The Wolverines also played Central Florida to a 0-0 draw. UCF is ranked No. 20 in the poll.

UTAH VALLEY CUTS DOWN THE NET
After claiming its second WAC regular season title last week with its win over Utah Tech on Saturday night, Utah Valley continued its tradition by cutting down the net on the south goal. 

UVU AT THE WAC TOURNAMENT
T
he Wolverines hold an all-time 13-4-2 (.736) record at the WAC Tournament since joining the league in 2013. Utah Valley went 2-1 at the tournament in 2021 with a 6-1 win over Sam Houston in the first round, a 1-0 win over Stephen F. Austin in the semifinals,  and a 3-0 loss to Grand Canyon in the championship match. UVU will play a tournament semifinal match for the ninth time in team history. The Wolverines hold a 5-3-0 record in WAC Tournament semifinal matches. Friday's match against GCU will mark the fourth time that UVU has played GCU in the tournament. UVU defeated GCU 1-0 in the semifinals of the 2017 tournament in Phoenix. UVU then picked up a 2-1 win over GCU in the first round of the 2018 tournament in Orem. GCU defeated UVU 3-0 in last year's championship match in Texas. 

UTAH VALLEY PICKS UP THREE MAJOR POSTSEASON WAC HONORS
Utah Valley nearly swept the Western Athletic Conference major postseason awards as Heather Stainbrook was named WAC Offensive Player of the Year, Jenna Shepherd was named WAC Defensive Player of the Year, and UVU head coach Chris Lemay was named the WAC Coach of the Year. 

It marks the first time in program history that Utah Valley has won three of the WAC's premier postseason awards in a single season. The Wolverines also had nine players named to the All-WAC teams. It marks the second-most players in UVU history named to the All-WAC teams.

NINE WOLVERINES NAMED EARN ALL-WAC HONORS
Utah Valley was well represented on the All-WAC teams as voted on by the league's coaches. Utah Valley had nine players earn all-WAC honors, the second most players ever named to the team. 

Heather Stainbrook, Jenna Shepherd, Sydney Bushman, Hannah Lee, and Faith Webber each earned First Team All-WAC honors. Julianna Carter was named to the All-WAC Second Team, while Haley Richardson, Leah Wolf, and Taylor Nelson earned Freshman All-WAC honors.

STAINBROOK BECOMES UTAH VALLEY'S ALL-TIME CAREER LEADER IN GOALS SCORED AND POINTS TALLIED
Utah Valley junior midfielder Heather Stainbrook recently became the UVU all-time leader in goals scored and points tallied. Stainbrook broke the all-time goals record of 26 set by both Sadie Brockbank (2017-21) and Jenni Clough (2005-08). Stainbrook scored her 27th career goal in the 69th minute in a 5-0 win over Southern Utah on Oct. 27. She then scored her 28th career goal, a game winner, in a 2-0 win over Utah Tech on Oct. 29.

Julianna Carter ranks fifth on the career goals list with 24 goals and fourth on the career points chart with 68. Carter is approaching the UVU all-time career assists record. Carter currently has 20 assists and is just five short of the UVU career record of 25 set by Amber Tripp from 2016-21. 

UVU HOLDS TOP RPI IN THE WAC
Utah Valley holds the best RPI in the WAC this season at 35 in the latest RPI released by the NCAA on Nov. 3. Utah Valley is one spot ahead of NC State (36) and two spots ahead of California (37). Grand Canyon is second in the league at 70, followed by New Mexico State (92), Seattle U (105), Utah Tech (148), California Baptist (180), Southern Utah (184), SFA (213), Tarleton (242), UTRGV (259), Sam Houston (289), and Abilene Christian (295).

UTAH VALLEY RANKS NO. 4 IN LATEST UNITED SOCCER COACHES PACIFIC REGION TOP-10 POLL
Utah Valley moved one spot to No. 4 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Pacific Region Top-10 Poll released on Monday. The Wolverines have spent 10 straight weeks in the poll.

After debuting at No. 10 in the week one poll, Utah Valley has since moved up six spots to No. 4 in the latest poll. The Wolverines are the only WAC team and the only non-Pac-12 team in the poll. The Pacific region consists of teams from the Mountain West Conference, Pac-12, and WAC.

CLYDE FIELD MAGIC
Utah Valley holds an impressive 100-41-14 (.690) all time record at Clyde Field. The team has lost just four matches over the past four seasons on the home pitch. UVU went 8-1-1 in 2021, 4-1-2 in 2020, 8-1-1 in 2019, 3-4-1 at home in 2018, 5-1-0 in 2017, 5-2-1 during the 2016 season and were unbeaten at home during the 2015 season with a 9-0-1 mark. UVU ranked 10th in the nation in attendance in 2021 as the Wolverines drew an impressive 14,828 fans during the season, an average of 1,483 per game. UVU is 8-1-1 at Clyde Field this season. UVU has lost just two games at Clyde Field over the past two seasons. 

UVU IN THE NATIONAL RANKINGS
As of Nov. 3, Utah Valley ranks in the top-10 nationally in eight different team statistical categories. The Wolverines rank third in the country in total assists (54), third in assists per game (284), fourth in total goals (51), fourth in total points (156), fifth in shots per game (20.05), sixth in shots on goal per game (9.11), seventh in points per game (8.21), and eighth in scoring offense (2.68). 

Individually, Faith Webber holds the best individual national ranking as she is fifth in shots on goal per game (2.32). Hannah Lee is sixth in total assists with 11, while Heather Stainbrook ranks eighth in the country in total points with 32 and ninth in total goals with 13. Webber also ranks ninth in shots per game at 4.47 a match.
