OREM, Utah – Three former Utah Valley Wolverines have finished their summer in professional baseball. Paxton Schultz reached Double-A with Mitch Moralez and Drew Sims wrapping up their first season in pro ball.

Schultz finished the 2022 season with a 7-6 record with a 4.04 ERA while pitching for the New Hampshire Fisher Cats, the Double-A affiliate of the Toronto Blue Jays. Schultz was particularly tough from Jun. 22 to Sept 1, throwing 44.1 innings with a 1.83 ERA. The impressive stretch was highlighted by an Aug. 3 start against Richmond, where he went 5.2 innings of four-hit ball with nine strikeouts. Moralez finished his first season in pro ball with the Westside Woolly Mammoths of the United Shore Professional League. The league plays all games in Utica, Michigan, and plays most games on the weekends. Moralez played in 20 games and hit .233 on the year, with a .313 on-base percentage. Westside finished the year 18-25-3 in the four-team league.

Sims played his first summer with the Glacier Range Riders of the Pioneer League. The first-year expansion team is in Kalispell, MT. The former UVU catcher played in 29 games while hitting .258 with two home runs and 15 RBIs. Sims made a loud debut going 2-for-4 with a home run, double, and three RBIs. Glacier finished the season 39-56 and did not make the playoffs.

The Wolverines will host Colorado Mesa on Oct. 14 for a fall exhibition at 12:05 p.m. at UCCU Ballpark. The three-game Wolverine World Series will run from Oct. 27-29 at UCCU Ballpark.
