OREM, Utah – Team Green defeated Team White 14-7 on Friday afternoon at UCCU Ballpark to clinch the Wolverine World Series. Team Green, led by Manager
Carter Krosky, clinched the best of two-out-of-three series and was led by a 4-for-5 game from
Nate Bach, who finished a double shy of the cycle.
"It was a competitive environment all series. Coach (Carter) Krosky did a great job of keeping his team attacking for the entire game and was rewarded with a championship!" said UVU head coach
Eddie Smith.
Green struck first in the top of the first inning with a solo home run off the bat of
Calyn Halvorson to take an early 1-0 lead.
Braxton Vick made it 2-0 in the second with an RBI single to right field before Danny Dickinson went yard for a two-run shot to make it 4-0.
The scoring wasn't done yet as they tacked on three runs in the top of the third after
Cougar Cooke tripled and scored on a single from Dickinson to make it 5-0.
Nate Bach put Green in front 7-0 with a two-run blast. Aaron Rice went 2.2 innings, allowing one hit and two earned runs.
Team White started to chip away at the deficit after
Luke Iverson walked and
Burke Camper singled before
Cole Jordan put them on the board with an RBI single. Matt Olive made it 7-2 with a sacrifice fly. It was quickly a one-run game after Team White scored four in the fourth, starting with an RBI single from Iverson and a two-run homer from Camper making it 7-5.
Matthew Schwarz kept the inning going with an RBI double to score Jordan.
Garrett Broussard doubled home a pair of runs in the top of the fifth inning to put Green up 9-6 before they exploded for a five-run sixth inning to pull away from White. Vick added his second RBI hit of the contest before Bach cleared the bases on the triple to make it 12-6. Halvorson and Broussard each added RBI hits. Team White pushed a run across in the bottom of the sixth inning after a Camper double, and he later scored on a wild pitch.
Green was led by a quartet of returners from last year's squad, with Dickinson finishing with three hits and reached four times, Halvorson finished 2-for-4, and Broussard finished with reaching base four times with two doubles.
