Oldroyd breaks pair of longstanding school records in St. George

ST. GEORGE, Utah—Kelsi Oldroyd broke a pair of longstanding school records, including one dating back 24 years as Utah Valley University opened the outdoor track & field season at the Utah Tech Invitational this weekend.

Oldroyd set a new school record in the javelin with her best throw of 53.95 meters breaking a record that has stood since 1999 by Helena Engman. She also set the school long jump record (5.91m), which breaks a 12-year-old record set in 2011 by Tiera Zaugg. Paige Young entered the top 10 in the school long jump record book as well, taking fourth with her best mark of 5.69 meters putting her in ninth.

Aaron Johnson took gold in the long jump, hitting 7.75 meters, which is right near the mark of 7.78 he hit at the NCAA Preliminary rounds last spring en route to becoming an All-American. He was also second in the 100-meter final (10.53) with a new personal record by .01 seconds as he sits in the No. 5 spot in the record book.

Joshua Clark won both the shot put and the discus and was just shy of his PR in the shot put with his best mark of 16.32 meters, where he is currently second in the school's top 10. Nicolas Forsyth won the men's javelin after hitting 62.87 meters, which is good enough for No. 4 in the record book.

Quincy Bonds recorded the third-best time in the program's top 100 in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing second with a time of 14.06 seconds. Young ran it in 14.33 seconds, which also enters the top 10 at No. 9.

Larissa Dabb moved up from eighth to fifth in the women's 400 after winning the event in 55.74 seconds. Kali McEuen's personal record in the 400 (1:02.90) puts her No. 7 in the school's top 10.

In the women's discus, Alyssa Logan won the event (44.17) while recording the sixth-best mark in program history. Sara Carillo was third overall with her best throw of 42.91 meters landing in eighth in UVU history.

In the men's 5,000, Austin Hone, Habtamu Cheney, and Max Mahon finished 1-2-3. Hone's time of 14:13.89 is the fourth-best time in the program's top 10 while Cheney (14:29.03) takes the No. 8 spot. Cheney took first in the 3,000 with his time of 8:22.28 a new PR that moves him from seventh to sixth in the record book. Hone also won the 1,500 (3:52.07) with Mahon in second and Adrian Jones in third. Jones took the top spot in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with Joel Mendez second and Sharp in third.

The Wolverines had the top-four finishers in the 5,000 with Mazzie Melaney Preston (16:34.60) taking first followed by Madison Flippence, Ari Trimble, and Kate Heywood.

Other Wolverines to win events were Boise State transfer Oakley Olson (3,000 Steeplechase) and Melaney Preston (1,500).
