OREM, Utah — Utah Valley University Track & Field heads to California this week with the Wolverines competing at a trio of meets beginning Thursday. The largest contingent of Wolverines will be at the Bryan Clay Invitational with others—including jumpers—competing at the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday and then the Beach Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
The Bryan Clay is held at Azusa Pacific University with portions of the event airing live on subscription based FloTrack. Among the UVU student-athletes expected to compete in Azusa are several of the distance runners who took last week off, as well as a group of sprinters and throwers.
Slated to compete in the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate and Beach Invitational—both at Long Beach State—is UVU's high jump group that ranks No. 4 in the country in the USTFCCCA Event Squad rankings this week.
Seth Krauss holds the top mark in the WAC so far this season with
Jeffrey Duvinston and
Aiden Garnett tied for the No. 2 spot in the conference. All three are ranked in the top 50 in the country.
Other Wolverines joining Krauss atop the WAC performance lists so far this outdoor season include:
Kelsi Oldroyd (javelin),
Everlyn Kemboi (10,000m),
Joel Mendez (3,000m steeplechase), and
Aaron Johnson (long jump). Utah Valley has 50 student-athletes ranked in the WAC's top 10.
The Wolverines also have three athletes in the top 10 nationally. Kemboi is second in the country in the 10k with
Mazzie Melaney Preston in 10th while Mendez currently has the No. 6 time in the 3k steeplechase.
Following this week's action, Utah Valley will compete close to home at the BYU Robison Invitational next Thursday-Saturday, April 20-22.
