ARLINGTON, Texas – Utah Valley University freshman Lani Matavao was named TicketSmarter Western Athletic Conference Libero of the week, the league announced on Thursday. Matavao's honor comes after she made her Wolverine debut and earned a spot on the Utah Valley Invitational All-Tournament Team.

"I can't be prouder of how Lani has started this season. She is amazing to watch on the court and delightful to coach, said UVU head coach Sam Atoa.

Matavao made her collegiate debut with 18 digs and three assists in a four-set match against NC State on Aug. 25 and continued to increase digs as the weekend went on, tallying 20 against Utah and finishing with 25 in a rematch with NC State. In her first weekend, she had one kill, 11 assists, two aces, and 63 digs over three matches, all while averaging 21 digs per match.

Utah Valley hits the road this weekend for three matches at the Kristen Dickmann Invitational hosted by the United States Naval Academy.
