OREM, Utah — Utah Valley head softball coach Cody Thomson has announced his 2025 signing class and the signing of future Wolverines Ella Miller (Bountiful, Utah), Maddie McSorley (Mission Viejo, Calif.), Megan Sterzer (Taylorsville, Utah), and Lexie Balfanz (Littleton, Colo.).
"We're really excited about the talent we're bringing in with this year's class," said Thomson. "We're adding two strong catchers that'll make an immediate impact on our program from day one, a strong arm in the circle, and a powerful bat to add to our outfield."
Ella Miller (Bountiful HS)
A powerful force at the plate and in the circle, Miller has been a key contributor to the RedHawks success in recent years, winning their region in each of the three seasons she's played and finishing as state runners up in 2023. As a junior, Miller struck out 279 batters while also hitting .393 with 11 home runs and 29 RBIs to earn first team All-State honors. Miller currently plays her club softball for the Utah Avalanche, and was previously club teammates with current Wolverine Brooklyn Ricci on the Utah Freakz.
Maddie McSorley (Capistrano Valley HS)
A skilled catcher with a strong offensive game, McSorley helped lead CVHS to its best softball season in school history last spring, capturing the 2024 Sea View League title and the CIF Division 3 Southern Section title, the team's first. CVHS also went on to make the state semifinals. In 2023, McSorley was named her team's MVP after leading her team with 29 RBIs, a .456 batting average, and a 1.518 OPS. On the club level, McSorley plays for BSC Bengals, and also previously competed with the Team USA U-16 team at the Colorado Triple Crown International Challenge, winning bronze in 2022 and silver in 2023.
Megan Sterzer (Taylorsville HS)
A versatile outfielder, Sterzer has been one of the top softball players in Utah in her time at THS. In her first three high school seasons, Sterzer has hit nine HRs and 42 doubles with 89 RBIs. Sterzer is a three-time All-Region honoree — first team in 2022 and 2023, and second team in 2024 — and was named first team All-State in 2024 while helping lead the Warriors to the 2024 Region 5A title with a perfect 10-0 record. At the club level, Sterzer competes with USA Athletics.
Lexie Balfanz (Chatfield Senior HS)
A talented catcher with a strong defensive presence, Balfanz has been a key contributor for CSHS, which has already played its 2024-25 season as Colorado plays high school softball in the fall. Balfanz is a four-time first team All-Conference honoree, and has been named first- and second-team All-State once apiece. Balfanz and CSHS won the 2023 state title and won their region each of the four years she played. Balfanz plays her club softball for the Colorado Softball Academy.
