OREM, Utah – Utah Valley baseball lost the opening game of a weekend series to UT Arlington 16-5. UVU (19-20, 10-6) homered on the game's first two hitters before the UTA (16-22, 11-8) bats got going, with Ryan Ellis finishing 5-for-5 in the contest.
The Wolverines jumped on UTA starter Zach Norris as
Daniel Dickinson hit a leadoff home run for his 15th of the season, putting him three short of Goose Kallunki's single-season record of 18.
Burke Camper joined in on the fun with a solo shot on the game's third pitch for his first of two in the game to make it 2-0 Utah Valley.
Dickinson and Camper each had two hits and scored two runs. Camper added his second home run and 15
th of the season with a two-run blast in the seventh inning off UTA's Jacob Hasty.
Utah Valley's
Nate Bach finished 3-for-4 in the contest to lead the offensive attack. He reached in all four of his at-bats in the victory. He had three singles and scored a run in the eighth inning on an RBI single by
Isaac Lovings.
The Wolverines and Mavericks will play game two of the series tomorrow at 2:05 p.m. MT. The game will be on ESPN+. The series will wrap up on Sunday at 12:05 p.m. MT.
