Atoa announces UVU's 2024 schedule

OREM, Utah – Utah Valley women's volleyball head coach Sam Atoa has announced the 2024 schedule for the Wolverines. UVU will have 12 home matches in 2024, with the home schedule featuring home games with in-state foes Southern Utah, Utah Tech, and Weber State.

The Wolverines will see four teams that competed in the NCAA Tournament and two teams that competed in the NIVC Tournament in 2024.

"I am excited for the challenge that lies ahead. We have a new team that is committed and determined to be our best. We look forward to the process that will help us be a championship team!" said UVU head coach Sam Atoa.

The Wolverines open the 2024 campaign inside Lockhart Arena by hosting the Utah Valley Invitational on Aug 30-31. The four-team tournament features Eastern Washington from the Big Sky and a pair of former WAC foes in CSU Bakersfield and Kansas City. The Roos finished last season in a four-way tie atop the Summit League and competed in the postseason in the NIVC.

Utah Valley will travel for two tournaments this season. The first will take them to Missoula, MT, for matches on Sep 5-7, starting with the host Montana before neutral site contests with Southern Miss and Boise State.

The following weekend, they will make their first trip to the Peach State for the Classic City Clash in Athens, GA. The Wolverines will see three opponents for the first time in program history, starting with Jacksonville (Sep 13) before meeting a pair of Power 5 foes on Sep 14, starting with the ACC's Boston College and wrapping up with the host Georgia. The Bulldogs participated in the postseason after a 19-12 overall finish before losing to Arizona State in Provo.

The preseason schedule concludes with three matches against in-state foes, who all made the NCAA Tournament last season. UVU will host the defending Big Sky Tournament Champions, Weber State Wildcats, on Sep. 17 inside Lockhart Arena. They will then face trips to Logan, Utah, on Sep 19 for a showdown with Utah State before a short trip to Provo to take on BYU on Sep 21.

Atoa said, "Our pre-season is tough, but it will help prepare us to be our best during our conference matches. I can't wait to see this team compete!! They will be an exciting team to watch!"

The WAC will play a double round-robin with 16 matches this season. The Wolverines will open WAC play on the road at California Baptist (Sep 26) before heading to the Emerald City to play Seattle U (Sep 30).

UVU will play five of their next six matches in Orem, starting with the Old Hammer Rivalry against Utah Tech (Oct 3) and Grand Canyon (Oct. 5). A one-game road trip to Tarleton State (Oct. 12) will break up the homestand. The first half will close out with a home match against Abilene Christian (Oct. 17) before hosting CBU on Oct. 19.

The Wolverines will tour the WAC for five of their final eight matches, starting with a one-match trek to Phoenix to GCU (Oct. 24) before hosting UT Arlington (Oct. 26). The longest stretch will consist of road matches at Southern Utah (Oct. 31) and Utah Tech (Nov. 2) before they wrap up in the Lone Star State with Abilene Christian (Nov. 7) and UT Arlington (Nov. 9).

They will close the regular season by hosting Tarleton State and Southern Utah on Nov 14 and 16.  The top eight teams in the WAC will qualify for the WAC Tournament on Nov. 21-23, hosted by UT Arlington in the College Park Center.
