OREM, Utah—Former Utah Valley University goalkeeper
Idalia Serrano has signed a professional contract with AS Volos 2004, a team in the Greek First League based in Volos, Greece.
"Playing professionally is a dream that many athletes have and now I'm given the opportunity to continue my passion and live out my dream," said Serrano. "UVU gave me the chance these last two years to grow as player and gain experience to move to the next level. UVU will always be with me wherever I go."
A native of Mendota, California, Serrano played 14 matches for UVU in 2022, helping the Wolverines secure a WAC regular season title and their first-ever NCAA Tournament at-large bid. Over her two seasons at UVU, Serrano recorded 43 saves, three shutouts, and a 1.53 goals-against average. Serrano also serves as the starting goalkeeper for the El Salvador Senior Women's National Team, having recently been called up for the W Gold Cup in September.
"We are really proud of Idalia for signing a professional contract to play in Greece," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "She obviously has had a great international career for the full Ecuadorian National team and now will continue to grow and develop as a pro. Idalia, along with Amber Tripp (Czech Republic, Portugal), Hannah Bruce (Puerto Rico), Hannah Lee (Brazil), and
Heather Stainbrook (NWSL), are great examples of former Wolverines that are now playing in the pros. We have current and future players that all desire to play at the next level, and we are committed to helping them realize their dreams."
Serrano's success is a testament to UVU's growing reputation for developing players who advance to the professional ranks. The Wolverines' program has a strong track record of helping athletes transition to professional careers, with several alumni currently playing in top leagues around the world. UVU continues to foster an environment where student-athletes can achieve their professional aspirations, both on and off the field.
