OREM, Utah — Utah Valley head softball coach Cody Thomson has announced the addition of former USU Eastern standout Mackenzie Wright to his roster for the upcoming 2025 season.

Wright comes to Orem after spending the fall season at Salt Lake CC where she returned to the softball diamond after serving an 18-month mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Atlanta, Georgia. Prior to her mission, Wright played her freshman campaign in 2022 at USUE, where she posted an impressive .518 batting average with 88 hits, a .582 on-base percentage, and 27 stolen bases. Wright is slated to redshirt this season and join the active roster next year.

"I'm excited to add Mackenzie a.k.a. Mack to the roster midseason," said Thomson. "This is going to give her an opportunity to work out with the team and be an impact player for us in the 2026 season."

Wright prepped at Sentinel HS in Missoula, Montana, where she was a three-time first team All-State honoree and helped lead her team to a third place state finish her senior year. Wright also excelled in the classroom, earning Academic All-State honors all four years. Wright played her club softball for Avalanche Fastpitch.

The Wolverines are just over a month out from the season opener, which will be on Feb. 7. Utah Valley will open the season at the NorCal Kickoff for the second time in three years with a pair of games on Opening Day against Idaho State and UC Davis.
