ARLINGTON, Texas — Utah Valley University senior forward Ruby Hladek has been named the Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Hladek helped the Wolverines nearly rally back in a hard-fought 3-2 setback at No. 23 Kansas last Thursday at Rock Chalk Park. She tallied a goal and an assist in the match, accounting for both of UVU's scores against the nationally ranked Jayhawks.
In the 22nd minute, Hladek delivered a perfectly placed pass to teammate Faith Webber, who slotted home the equalizer to make it 1-1. Later in the match, she brought the Wolverines within a goal in the 85th minute when she buried a header off a Marie Quentel corner kick, cutting the deficit to 3-2.
Hladek tallied a team-best four shots, including two on goal, while spearheading a second-half surge that saw UVU outshoot Kansas 7-4.
This marks the first WAC weekly honor of the season for Hladek and the second straight week a Wolverine has earned a conference award, after Taylor Nelson and Leah Wolf swept the league's defensive honors a week ago.
Utah Valley (1-1-0) now returns home to host ACC foe California on Thursday, Aug. 28, at UCCU Stadium. The match will kick off at 7:30 p.m., following the UVU men's game against Florida Gulf Coast at 5 p.m. Both contests will stream live on ESPN+. Tickets are available at GoUVU.com/Tickets
