OREM — Utah Valley University freshman midfielder
Malia Jessop has been named to the American Samoa Women's National Team player pool for the upcoming FIFA Women's World Cup Qualifier in 2025.
The Football Federation of American Samoa (FFAS) announced Jessop as part of its official roster pool on Tuesday. The squad, guided by head coach Amanda Cromwell, will open preparations with a training camp in Los Angeles, Sept. 3-8, where players will showcase their skill, determination, and teamwork. Jessop departs today and will return to Orem on Monday.
"We are very excited for Malia. Anytime that you have players being called into full national team camps it is a feather in the program's cap," said Utah Valley head coach
Chris Lemay. "Malia is a very talented and committed player and will bring work ethic, competitiveness and a speed of play to the camp that I am sure the staff will be pleased with. We are cheering for American Samoa and hope to see Malia playing on the World Stage at the next FIFA Women's World Cup!"
Jessop, from Vineyard, Utah, is in her first season with the Wolverines and saw action in UVU's most recent match against SEC opponent Auburn. Known for her work ethic, competitiveness, and quick speed of play, she was a standout at Timpanogos High School, where she scored 21 goals and tallied 12 assists during her senior season. She helped lead the Timberwolves to four consecutive Region 8 championships and a runner-up finish in the 4A state finals, earning MVP honors during her prep career.
