POCATELLO, Idaho and SEATTLE — Utah Valley athletes posted eight top-10 marks to kick off two days of action across two different meets.
At the Husky Classic in Seattle, the Wolverine distance runners shined in the 5k, with a trio of top five marks. Reagan Doman highlighted the women's effort with a time of 16:05.15 to finish fifth overall against a tough field and post the fourth-best mark all-time in that event.
On the men's side, Porter Whitworth and Wyatt Mortenson posted the No. 3 and 4 times at 13:53.51 and 14:12.11 respectively. Whitworth took seventh overall against another strong field of competitors.
At the Mountain States Games in Pocatello, a pair of top two marks headlined the day one results. Jennaveve Bingham posted an 800-meter qualifying time of 2:09.92, while Maddie Passmore won the long jump with a new indoor personal best of 5.89m.
Seth Smith won the men's 5k in Pocatello with a converted time of 14:15.01, good for fifth all-time. Emily Conlin reached a new indoor personal best in the pole vault at 3.70m to leap all the way up to No. 4 all-time. Over in the throws pit, Karsten Deaken improved on her own indoor high in the shot put with a mark of 13.32m to stay at No. 7 all-time.
In Friday's prelims, Utah Valley qualified 17 athletes for Saturday's finals across the board. The Wolverines will be best represented in the 800m, with three women and two men qualifying for the finals. Utah Valley will also have four representatives each in the 60m and 200m finals.
The marquee events of the weekend will be Saturday in Seattle as Morgan Nokes and Caren Kipsirat each compete in a stacked 5k field at the Husky Classic. Nokes will look to improve on her WAC-record time of 15:46.11, while Kipsirat will be making her collegiate debut in the event. The women's 5k is scheduled to start at 2:50 p.m. MT.
On the men's side, Utah Valley's top three indoor mile runners of all time — Alex Hartshorn, Sila Kiplagat, and Jayden Fitzgarrald — will each compete across the final three heats of the event. The men's mile is slated to begin at 1:25 p.m. MT.
