ST. GEORGE—Ayssa Butterfus and Chloe Jang each shot a 5-over-par 77 on Friday to lead the Utah Valley women's golf team in the opening round of the Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational at Sunbrook Golf Club.

Butterfus and Jang are tied for 20th on the 61-player leaderboard after the opening round. Butterfus recorded a pair of birdies on the back nine, while Jang tallied a birdie on the front nine.

Rylie Rodriguez and Valentina Zuleta each carded 6-over-par 78s and sit tied for 26th place after round one. Maria Ortiz posted a 7-over-par 79 and is tied for 30th.

Mia Pace, competing as an individual, shot an 8-over-par 80 and is tied for 34th. Pati Uluave, also playing individually, recorded a 13-over-par 85 and is tied for 52nd. Jacklyn Gonzalez, another individual competitor, shot an 18-over-par 90 and sits in 61st.

As a team, Utah Valley posted a 22-over-par 310 and is in sixth place on the nine-team leaderboard.

Utah Valley will continue play at the tournament on Saturday with the second round at Sunbrook Golf Club.
