OREM, Utah — Utah Valley baseball currently has eight players playing professionally this summer, with three currently playing affiliated baseball and five competing in independent leagues across the United States. Garrett Broussard earned his first All-Star nod, and
Kaden Carpenter was drafted by the Texas Rangers last weekend.
PLAYERS IN AFFILIATED BASEBALL
Paxton Schultz – Rochester Red Wings (Triple-A), Washington Nationals
Schultz was sent down to Triple-A earlier in June for his second stint this season with the Red Wings. He has been tough on Triple-A hitters in 11 appearances, recording one save with a 2.31 ERA. He has been particularly difficult to hit in July, as he has yet to allow a run in four appearances.
Casey Anderson – Reno Aces (Triple-A), Arizona Diamondbacks
Anderson earned his promotion to Reno last month and is now knocking on the door of the major leagues. The Utah native will return home this weekend when the Aces square off against the Salt Lake Bees. Primarily used as a reliever this season between Double-A Amarillo and Triple-A Reno, Anderson has made four solid outings for the Aces, including a scoreless two-inning appearance against the Los Angeles Dodgers' affiliate, Oklahoma City, last month.
Mitch Mueller – Cedar Rapids Kernels (High-A), Minnesota Twins
Mueller appeared in one game with Double-A Wichita, where he recorded two outs and a strikeout before being sent back to Fort Myers for a brief stint. He was later promoted to Cedar Rapids. Since joining the Kernels, he has made nine appearances and is 1-1 with one save and a 3.77 ERA. The right-hander has logged 14 1/3 innings with 19 strikeouts. In seven of his nine outings, he has struck out multiple hitters.
Kaden Carpenter – TBA, Texas Rangers
Carpenter was drafted over the weekend in the ninth round by the Texas Rangers, becoming the highest-selected position player in UVU's Division I era. He is the first Utah Valley position player selected since All-American Goose Kallunki was drafted by the San Diego Padres in 2012.
INDEPENDENT LEAGUES
Patrick Mills – Billings Mustangs (Pioneer League)
In his third season with the Mustangs, Mills is on pace to set new career highs despite spending time on the injured list. In 30 games this season, he is hitting .349 with eight home runs, 36 RBIs and 13 doubles. His career high in home runs was set in 2024 when he launched 12 in Big Sky Country. The Mustangs recently clinched a playoff spot with a 36-11 record in the first half of the Pioneer League season.
Garrett Broussard – Florence Y'alls (Frontier League)
Broussard earned his first All-Star selection since beginning his professional career in 2024 and has enjoyed a terrific season in Kentucky. In 55 games, he has recorded 67 hits and four home runs, a career high for the third baseman. He has already established career highs in runs scored, hits, doubles, home runs, RBIs, and walks. He will suit up in the Y'alls' All-Star Game on Wednesday, July 15, in front of his home crowd in Florence.
Cole Jordan – Ogden Raptors (Pioneer League)
In his third season playing in Utah, Jordan is also on pace for a career year in several categories, including home runs, with 12 already this season, and stolen bases, with 20. The versatile defender is hitting .350 for the Raptors while driving in 55 runs and collecting 72 hits. He helped Ogden to a 29-19 first-half finish. The Raptors will look to make a playoff push in the league's second half.
Calyn Halvorson – Lincoln Saltdogs (American Association)
Halvorson is in his first season with Lincoln after spending time in Grand Junction last year. He has appeared in 41 games this season and has four home runs, just one shy of a career best, while batting .280. He has played multiple positions for Lincoln, providing the club with a valuable utility option.
CJ Colyer – Billings Mustangs (Pioneer League)
Known more for his bat during his time at Utah Valley, the two-way player has found a home on the mound in Billings. He has appeared in 13 games this season for the Mustangs, who finished just a half-game behind first-place Long Beach during the league's first half. Colyer has logged 13 1/3 innings with a 1-1 record and 20 strikeouts.
