What's on Tap:
The Wolverines will make their 2nd trip to Lewiston, Idaho for the Banana Belt Tournament at Lewis & Clark State College. Last season, the Wolverines finished the tournament 1-3 with their lone win coming against Portland 5-4.

Wolverine Update:
After hitting the ball so well the week before, the Gonzaga pitching staff gave Utah Valley fits as the Bulldogs swept the three game series in Pasco, Washington last weekend.
Gonzaga had three very good pitching performances from their starters, limiting Utah Valley to just six runs in the series. After losing 7-3 in the series opener, the Wolverines found themselves down 5-1 going into the ninth of game two. Utah Valley wouldn't go down without a fight, bringing potential winning run to the plate before falling 5-2. In the third game, Gonzaga's bat came alive and their pitching held strong as they limited Utah Valley to just one run on a Kory Drew homer in a 14-1 Wolverine defeat.

Quick Hits:
- The Wolverines will play their first 23 games of the season on the road.
- Opening Day at Parkway Crossing Stadium is March 24th when the Wolverines host Southern Utah.
- Kory Drew quietly had a huge weekend in Colorado, which went somewhat unnoticed following Trent Perry's huge series. Drew hit 9-for-17 with three home runs and seven RBI in the series.
- Drew and Perry lead the team with four home runs apiece, just three off of the NCAA school record.
- The April 13th home game against Lewis & Clark State has been pushed back an hour 2:00pm instead of 1:00pm.

Perry Wins Another Honor:
Utah Valley State slugger has been honored again for his performance February 18-20 against Air Force and North Dakota State. Perry was named Division I Independent Player of the Week on Tuesday after hitting 10-for-18, (.556) with four home runs and 16 RBI in a four-game sweep of North Dakota State and Air Force.

He slugged 1.412 during the series and was 8-for-13 with runners in scoring position, knocking in 11 of his 16 RBI with two outs. Perry-??s honor comes just days after he was named CollegeBaseballInsider.com-??s National Player of the Week.

"It's a neat thing that's happened for Trent," said Head Coach Steve Gardner. "I hope the rest of the school understands how hard it is to get that kind of exposure."

To compare the weekend to what Perry did all of last year, he nearly matched his 2004 totals in home runs (7) and RBI (23).

"I don't know that I've ever had a player have the kind of week that Trent had," said Gardner. "It's the type of thing that happens only one time in a guy's career."

Scouting the Opposition:
Washington State:
The Cougars are 7-7 as they look to defend their Banana Belt Tournament title from last season. Utah Valley will travel to Pullman March 18-20 for four games with WSU.

Lewis & Clark State:
The Warriors are 6-2 after winning the Guardian Tournament in Lewiston. LCSC has a rich baseball tradition, having won 13 NAIA National Championships. They will play in Orem on Wednesday, April 13th at 2:00pm. The Warriors lead the overall series with Utah Valley 1-0.

Portland:
Portland is 4-6 after losing 2 of three to UC Davis over the weekend. The Pilots and Wolverines played three times last season, with Utah Valley winning all three games.

Gonzaga:
The Bulldogs are 6-3 after last weekend-??s sweep of the Wolverines. They now lead the overall series with Utah Valley State 4-0.

On Deck:
Utah Valley State has a busy week after returning from Lewiston. On Tuesday, March 8th they will take on local rival Brigham Young at 3:00pm at Miller Park. This will be the first ever meeting between the schools that are less than six miles apart.

Utah Valley and BYU will meet five times in 2005 with three coming at Parkway Crossing Stadium and the other two at Miller Park in Provo. Following the game with BYU, the Wolverines will be back in action on Friday, March 11th at UC-Davis in a 3:00 p.m. MST start. They will also play single games Saturday the 12th and Sunday the 13th at 2:00 p.m. MST.

Return to Provo:
The Wolverines have a couple of ties to BYU, which is no surprise considering the geographical locations of the two schools. Junior Brad Hales played his first two seasons at BYU before transferring to Utah Valley State.

Wolverine assistant coach Nate Mathis played for both Utah Valley State and BYU during his career. Mathis got his coaching start at BYU, coaching for two season under former Wolverine assistant and current Cougar coach Vance Law before returning to Utah Valley State, where his college career began. He also received both his Bachelor's and Master's degrees from BYU.

Wolverine coach Steve Gardner has ties to the Provo school as well, as he received his Master's Degree from BYU in 1981.
