Utah Valley State will take participate in the Division-I Independent Invitational in Greeley, Colorado May 20-22. They are scheduled to play three games; New York Institute of Technology on Friday, Northern Colorado on Saturday and South Dakota State on Sunday. The invitational championship will be awarded to the team the finishes the weekend with the best record. If two teams tie, the tiebreaker will be decided by head-to-head competition between the two teams. The invitational is important for schools that are independent and don-??t have any other way to participate in postseason play.

"We can use this as a tournament for our independent conference," said Utah Valley State coach Steve Gardner. "It's something that can help recruiting, so it's important to have these postseason tournaments."

Wolverine Update:
The Wolverines are fresh off of an 8-2 win over in-state rival Utah on Tuesday night. Senior Jed Jensen picked up the win on the mound in the final home start of his career. The Wolverines got contributions from up and down the lineup and from the pitching staff. Gardner played nearly everybody and used four pitchers as the Wolverines were coming off of a nine day layoff. Nick Connor was 3-for-5 on the day including an inside the park home run, his first home run of the year. Kevin Hashimoto finished off his home career as he went 2 for-4 with a triple.

Quick Hits:
- Senior Kevin Hashimoto currently has a nine game hitting streak after picking up two hits on Tuesday against Utah. Hashimoto is batting .419 (13-for-31) during that nine game span.

- The Wolverines played 17 games against in-state schools SUU, BYU and Utah and finished with a 7-10 record. They won season series over Utah 3-2, but lost the season series to SUU (3-4) and BYU (1-4).

- Utah Valley State is currently 5-10 against other D-I Independent Schools with this weekend-??s games to go.

- Eli Slesk is hitting .474 in 10 games against D-I Independents this year. Slesk didn-??t play in the first five games against Independents due to an injury.

2005 Season Highlights to Date:
- Senior Trent Perry was named CollegeBaseballInsider.com-??s National Player of the Week after his performance against North Dakota State and Air Force February 18-20. Perry was 10-for-18 (.555) with four home runs and 16 runs batted in during the four-game sweep of the two clubs.

- Kory Drew was named Division-I Independent Newcomer of the Week on March 29th after going 10-for-23 (.435) with a grand slam and eight RBI against BYU and Southern Utah.

- The Wolverines beat in-state rival BYU for the first time in school history on March 18th (7-to-4) as Kyle Tash threw a complete-game and Nick Connor went 4-for-4 in the win.

- The Wolverines upset #17 Arizona State on May 4 in Tempe, Arizona by a score of 9-to-6. Jed Jensen earned the victory lasting into the eighth inning and scattering 10 Sun Devil his and allowing four earned runs and striking out nine. Utah Valley State's pitching staff struck out 11 on the day as Beau Giles came in and sat down two batters of his own.

- Jensen's performance at Arizona State earned him Division-I Independent Pitcher of the Week honors for the week of May 2-8. It's the first time Jensen has received the honor.
