What's on Deck ...
Utah Valley State hosts fellow D-I Independent Northern Colorado for three games this weekend beginning Friday at 7pm. On Saturday, the two teams will play a doubleheader beginning at 1pm.

The Wolverines are coming off of an 8-6 loss at the hands of BYU on Tuesday while Northern Colorado beat in-state rival Air Force on Tuesday 15-5.

This is the first time that the Wolverines and Bears will meet in Orem. In 2004 the two teams met four times, twice in Greeley, Colorado and twice in Provo when Wolverine Stadium was under construction.

In 2005, UV and UNC split a two-game series in Greeley before the Bears topped the Wolverines in the D-I Independent Tournament, also in Greeley.

Wolverines by the Numbers ...
Nick Connor continues to swing the bat well and is hitting .465 (33-for-71) so far this season.

Connor missed 15 games with an injury and has spent some time as the designated hitter, but despite nursing that inujry, continues to have success at the plate.

Kam Mickolio is rounding into the ace that pitching coach Eric Madsen hoped he would be after transferring from Eastern Utah in 2005.

Mickolio has won three out of his last four decisions and in those three wins has a 2.35 ERA, including a shutout at Sacramento State.

Scouting the Opposition ...
Northern Colorado (12-19), like Utah Valley State, is a fellow NCAA D-I Independent.

The Bears are coming off of a mid-week win over in-state foe Air Force, 15-5. They took two out of three from South Dakota State last weekend in Greeley, Colorado.

Friday's starter, Chris Johns, helped UNC to a win 5-2 win over #2 Nebraska on March 28th.

Mitch Jones Inducted into UVSC Hall of Fame...
Former Wolverine baseball star Mitch Jones was inducted into the UVSC Athletic Hall of Fame on Wednesday.

Jones was an outstanding baseball player at Utah Valley State from 1997-98. He finished his career as the most prolific home run hitter in school history, cranking out 41 homers in his two seasons with the Wolverines.

Jones, a product of Mountain View High School in Orem, played during Utah Valley's NJCAA era, and left holding a host of single and two-year career records. He set the school's single-season record with 23 homers in 1998, and the single game record with three dingers against North Idaho on May 9, 1997. Durins his career, he earned All-Conference, All-Region, and NJCAA All-America recognition.

Jones played his final two years of collegiate baseball at Arizona State. He set a single-season record for ASU with 27 homers in 2000, and led the nation in home runs per game with a .46 average. He was a consensus first-team All-American, and was drafted in the seventh round by the New York Yankees. Jones is in his sixth season in the Yankee organization, currently with the AAA Columbus Clippers of the International League.

Up Next ...
The Wolverines travel to BYU on Tuesday, April 18th before a three-game series at WAC opponent Nevada April 21-23.
