What's On Deck ...
Utah Valley State is set to host the #1 ranked team in NAIA, Lewis-Clark State, in a three-game series beginning Thursday at 7pm. The two teams will also play Friday at 7pm before a Saturday afternoon series finale scheduled for 1pm.
It will be the first series between the two teams, although they have played on three separate occasions with Lewis-Clark winning all three.
The series will be the final home series of the 2006 season, with a single game left to be played against BYU next Tuesday, May 2nd.
The Wolverines have now lost three games in a row following a 14-1 setback at in-state rival Utah on Tuesday.
The Utes racked up the 14 runs on 16 hits including three home runs.
Last weekend the Wolverines won the opener of a three-game set a Nevada before dropping the final two games.
Kam Mickolio threw a four-hit shutout in UV's only win of the weekend, and made history becoming the first opposing pitcher to throw a shutout at Nevada's Peccole Park in the 19 years of its existence.
For his performance, Mickolio earned Division-I Independent Pitcher of the Week honors.
The senior from Bozeman, Montana leads team in strikeouts (42) innings pitched (71.1) and is tied for the team lead with four wins.
Scouting the Opposition ...
Lewis-Clark State (36-3) comes into this week's series a the NAIA's #1 ranked team. The Warriors have won 25 straight games including Tuesday 16-7 win over Whitworth.
Lewis-Clark is batting .331 as a team and led by Matt Vogel's .405 average. Justin Fuller is batting .375 with three home runs, 16 doubles and a team best 37 runs batted in.Â
As a team the Warriors have a 2.48 earned run average, one of the top team ERA's in the nation.
Up Next ...
The Wolverines host BYU next Tuesday, May 2nd on Senior Night. It will be the final home game for ten seniors, including Reno Mendenhall, who is one of only three players ever to play four years at Utah Valley.Â
Following the game against BYU, the Wolverines will travel to Pullman, Washington to take on the Pac-10's Washington State Cougars in a three-game series beginning Saturday, May 9th through Monday 11th.
