Baseball Opens Home Schedule With Utah on Tuesday

OREM, Utah - Utah Valley baseball opens its 2008 home schedule at Brent Brown Ballpark on Tuesday at 7pm when in-state rival Utah comes to town. It will be the first of six games for the Wolverines (4-16-1) against the Utes (7-12) this season including UV's next five.

The two will play four times next week beginning Wednesday, April 2nd in Orem. Senior Marcus Moore (2-3, 3.23) will get the start on the mound for the Wolverines while Utah will counter with sophomore John James (1-2, 4.11).

Utah Valley has lost five straight including a three-game series at Washington over the weekend. The Wolverines were shutout twice in three games, losing 2-0 to Portland on Friday and 5-0 to Washington on Saturday.

UV last won on Tuesday, March 18th when Moore struck out nine and threw his fifth career complete game in a 5-3 win at Gonzaga. Jace Brinkerhoff hit a three-run home run in the first inning to put the Wolverines up early.

Utah has lost four out of five including two out of three to open its conference schedule last weekend against San Diego State in Salt Lake City.

The Utes are hitting .312 as a team led by Jesse Shriner's .418 average. Utah has five players hitting .352 or higher.

The two teams split six games in 2007, with each team winning all three of its home games. Moore won all three of his starts in 2007 against the Utes played at Brent Brown Ballpark.
