Baseball in California for River City Classic

March 5, 2008

OREM, Utah - After a five-game road trip to Southern Utah last weekend, Utah Valley baseball is back on the road again at the River City Classic in Davis and Sacramento, California.

The Wolverines (1-7-1) will open against Portland on Thursday at 11am MT at UC Davis before taking on in-state rival BYU on Friday at 11am MT on Sacramento State's field.

UV will play Sac State on Saturday at 3pm MT before wrapping up the tournament on Sunday at 11am MT against San Jose State.

Losers of two straight, the Wolverines will send Marcus Moore to the mound against Portland. Moore is coming off of a 10 strikeout performance in UV's only win of the season, a 7-2 victory over Southern Utah.

Dan Christensen is the scheduled starter in Friday's contest against BYU while Aaron Brady and Bryan Smith are expected to start Saturday and Sunday.

Last weekend the Wolverines lost four out of five games against Southern Utah and Dixie. After losing two out of three at SUU, Dixie State swept UV in a short two-game series.

On Sunday, the Rebels prevailed 7-6 in 11 innings, thanks to a three-run ninth inning that sent the game into extra frames. Dixie edged the Wolverines on Monday, in an identical 7-6 contest, to sweep the series.

Following the River City Classic, Utah Valley will play at BYU, just four days after facing the Cougars in Sacramento on Tuesday at 6pm at Larry H. Miller Field.
