About the Wolverines
The Wolverines (29-17, 18-2 in GWC) have a three-game lead over Northern Colorado with eight games to play in conference. UVU split a two-game non-conference series at Seattle University this week, falling 11-9 before a 2-1, 12-inning win.

It was the fourth extra-inning game and the third win for Utah Valley. Goose Kallunki drove in both runs including an RBI double in the 12th and Zane Gray tossed 8.2 innings and allowed no earned runs (one total) on three hits while striking out six. Gray didn't factor into the decision but Brian Whatcott came on and threw 2.1 scoreless innings before Craig Brimhall pitched the 12th to earn his third save.

Last weekend, the Wolverines took three of four from NYIT, a team that entered the weekend tied with Northern Colorado for second. In the series Jason Zundel batted .500 and Cole McWhorter homered twice.

Jace Brinkerhoff leads the team with a .436 batting average and is four games away from his 200th career game, the most all-time for any UVU player. He is also six hits shy of tying his school record of 94 hits in a season set in 2009.

The magic number is five for the Wolverines to mathematically clinch the Great West Conference regular season title. UVU wins plus Northern Colorado losses must at equal at least five over the final eight games. UNC hosts NYIT this weekend and Chicago State next week.

On Deck
The Wolverines will play at BYU on Tuesday at 6 p.m. in a game that can be seen on BYU-TV. UVU will then travel to Houston Baptist for the final GWC series of the season and a four-game series starting Thursday, May 20. From there Utah Valley will head to Edinburg, Texas for the GWC Tournament May 26-29.

Where UVU Ranks
Utah Valley is lead the nation with 151 doubles. That number is nearly twice the 76 doubles that opponents have against the Wolverines. UVU is also fifth in the country in team batting with a .358 average and is in the top 10 in slugging and on-base plus slugging (OPS).

About the Opposition
NJIT was swept at home by Northern Colorado and were limited to just seven runs over the course of the two-day, four-game series.

The Highlanders are hitting 13 points higher in GWC games and have hit 13 of their 19 home runs in conference. Teddy Bickert leads the team with a .325 average while Bryan Bleakley is batting .314, including .353 in conference, and has a team-high six home runs and 24 RBI.
