About the Wolverines
UVU remains a win away from setting a new school record for wins in a season at the Division I level. The Wolverines swept four games from Texas-Pan American over the weekend, winning the final two games of the series by identical 8-7 scores, before falling 14-10 to BYU on Tuesday.

In the series against UTPA, Kevin Arendse went 9-for-13 (.692) with five doubles and started the series 6-for-6 and reached base in his first eight plate appearances. Arendse was named the Great West Conference Player of the Week on Monday, the third Wolverine to win the award this season.

Jace Brinkerhoff became the first Utah Valley player to surpass 300 career hits in the series opener, a 19-11 win in which he went 3-for-5. His 301st hit was a solo home run, his team-leading ninth of the year, on a towering shot to right. Chris Benson and Goose Kallunki also both have nine home runs while Billy Burgess has eight.

Against BYU in front of a record crowd of 3,744, the Wolverines took an early 8-2 lead only to see BYU come back to win on the strength of five home runs and a seven-run sixth inning.

Kallunki led UVU with three hits including two doubles and five other players had two hits but it wasn't enough to overcome a strong offensive day from the Cougars.

On Deck
The Wolverines make the cross country trip from New York to Seattle for a two-game midweek series against Seattle University next Tuesday and Wednesday. They'll return home to host NJIT in a four-game conference series beginning Friday, May 14.

Where UVU Ranks
Utah Valley is third in the country in team batting with a .366 average. The Wolverines also rank among the national leaders in several other offensive categories; first in doubles per game, fourth in slugging, seventh in on-base percentage and third in on-base plus slugging.

About the Opposition
NYIT defeated Army on Wednesday at home to move to 20-18-2 on the year. In the Great West, the Bears swept Chicago State, took three of four from NJIT and split series with North Dakota and Houston Baptist.

Effrey Valdez leads the GWC and ranks third in the country with a .452 batting average while Brian Smith homered twice against Army and is second in the Great West with 12 home runs. Close Mike Roth is 3-2 with a 1.76 ERA and six saves.
