OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley opens its 2011 home baseball schedule this week when Southern Utah comes to Brent Brown Ballpark for a three-game series starting Thursday at 6 p.m. MT. The teams are also slated to play Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m.
The Wolverines (3-10) and T-Birds (6-8) played a series in the second week of the season - once in Cedar City, twice in St. George - with SUU winning two out of three and both of its wins coming in the final at-bat of the game.
Utah Valley's win in the series was a one-hit shutout, 5-0, pitched by Blake Krahenbuhl and Justin Campbell. Krahenbuhl threw eight innings in the Wolverines' first-ever one-hitter at the NCAA Division I level and was named the Great West's Pitcher of the Week.
The Wolverines have a 22-21 edge in the competitive all-time series between the in-state rivals. UVU was swept at Washington State in three games last week.
The Thunderbirds beat Grambling State on Tuesday, 15-11, after losing four games at Louisiana-Monroe over the weekend.
Following the three home games, Utah Valley will play 12 straight on the road starting next week at Sacramento State. Overall, the Wolverines play 25 of their first 28 games on the road and 19 of their final 28 regular season games at home.
