OREM, Utah - Utah Valley University and the University of Utah will play the first of four midweek games during the 2011 baseball season beginning on Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Spring Mobile Ballpark in Salt Lake City.
The two teams will also play single games on April 12 and 26 in Orem and again on May 17 in Salt Lake.
The Wolverines (6-13) are coming off of a series win at Sacramento State over the weekend, picking up victories in the first and final games of the three-game set.
In the opener last Friday, Jeremy Gendlek pitched a three-hit shutout to guide UVU to a 6-0 win. It was the team's third shutout of the year and the first shutout by a single Wolverine pitcher since the 2008 season.
In the finale, Blake Krahenbuhl pitched 8.1 strong innings and the Wolverines scored three times in the first to win 4-1. Chris Benson, who leads the team with a .402 average, had two RBI in the game.
Kyle Beecher is Tuesday's scheduled starter for Utah Valley while the Utes (10-9) will counter with Joe Pond.
The Utes are led by All-American C.J. Cron, who is batting .467 with five home runs and 24 RBI and lead the all-time competitive series 18-16. Chris Benson's .402 average leads Utah Valley.
Following Tuesday's game the Wolverines will head to Nevada for a three-game series in Reno beginning Friday.
