It's UVU's (6-14) second straight road series at a Western Athletic Conference school after winning two of three last weekend at Sacramento State.
The Wolverines lost at Utah on Tuesday, 15-3, as the Utes scored four runs early and then nine times over the final three innings. Chris Benson extended his hit streak to 12 games with a two-run single in the third for Utah Valley. He leads the team with a .395 average and 17 runs batted in.
Nevada enters the weekend at 5-15 and after winning its series-opener last weekend at Washington, dropped two straight one-run games. All three games in the series were won by a single run. The Wolfpack are led by Nick Melino's .373 average at the plate. UNR leads the all-time series 12-2 over Utah Valley, with all 14 games coming in Reno.
Utah Valley will go with the same series rotation for the second week in a row; Jeremy Gendlek, off of his three-hit shutout at Sac State, will start the opener. Gendlek was named the Great West Conference Pitcher of the Week on Tuesday. Brock Sargent and Blake Krahenbuhl will also start. Krahenbuhl allowed only one first-inning run before shutting down Sac State into the ninth inning, lasting 8.1 innings to pick up his third win. The sophomore righthander has amassed a 12-2 record so far in his career.
Utah Valley play at BYU on Tuesday in a game that can be seen live on BYUTV before opening GWC play with a four-game series at NJIT in Newark.
