OREM, Utah - In the midst of a 10-game homestand, Utah Valley hosts NYIT in a four-game Great West Conference series beginning Thursday at 6 p.m. MT at Brent Brown Ballpark.
The teams will play a doubleheader on Friday starting at 4 p.m. with the series' final game set for Saturday at 1 p.m.
Despite a 15-8 loss to Utah on Tuesday, the Wolverines (15-19, 7-1 GWC) come in having won eight of their last 10 and are in first place in the Great West. The Bears (10-20, 6-3 GWC) are tied for second with Northern Colorado and Houston Baptist as the conference season approaches its midway point.
Kai Hatch is 14 for his last 19 entering the series and is batting .500 in Great West play. Jeremy Gendlek, who will start Thursday's series opener, is 2-0 and has thrown 16 scoreless innings so far in two conference starts.
NYIT, which hails from Old Westbury, New York, lost the opening game of a series against North Dakota last week before winning three straight to take the series.
Effrey Valdez leads the league and is among the national leaders with a .435 batting average to go along with eight home runs. UVU has a 4-3 series lead after taking three of four last year in New York.
The Wolverines will play their final non-conference home game against Seattle on Wednesday, May 4 before heading to Edinburg, Texas for a Great West series at Texas-Pan American beginning May 6.
