OREM, Utah - Utah Valley will play its final non-conference game of the season on Tuesday in Salt Lake City against Utah, wrapping up a four-game midweek series in 2011 with the Utes.
Utah has won two of the first three meetings entering Tuesday's contest at Spring Mobile Ballpark. Freshman lefthander Ty Hansen will start for UVU while the Utes will send righthander Ben Mordini to the mound. The game will be broadcast on KALL 700 AM and can also be heard on WolverineGreen.com.
The Wolverines (27-20, 19-1 GWC) have won eight straight overall after picking consecutive series sweeps in the Great West Conference including last weekend's home series against Houston Baptist.
Blake Krahenbuhl finished off the weekend with 7.1 innings of four-hit baseball to help UVU to its seventh shutout of the year, 9-0. The Wolverines have won 13 consecutive conference games overall.
Senior Chris Benson ranks second among all Great West hitters in batting (.406) and is first in hits (86) and runs (52). Goose Kallunki is tied for the league lead with 52 RBI an Austin Heaps leads the conference and ranks sixth nationally with 23 doubles.
Jeremy Gendlek has the top ERA in the Great West (1.82) and also holds just a 0.49 ERA in GWC games. Krahenbuhl is second to Gendlek with a 2.96 ERA overall.
Utah (26-18, 16-7 MWC) wrapped up Mountain West Conference play last weekend against No. 10 (Baseball America) TCU, picking up an 11-inning win in the opener before dropping two close contests in Fort Worth, Texas. All-American C.J. Cron continues to be among the national leaders in several offensive categories.
Utah Valley hosts Northern Colorado this weekend in a series that will determine the Great West's regular season champion and top seed in next week's GWC Tournament in Grand Forks, North Dakota. The Wolverines enter the series needing one win to clinch their second consecutive title while the Bears need a sweep of the four-game series to win it.
