OREM, Utah - Utah Valley baseball takes a quick one-game break from conference play with a Wednesday match-up against Seattle University at 6 p.m. at Brent Brown Ballpark.
It's the final non-conference home game of the year for the Wolverines (19-19, 11-1 GWC), who will then hit the road in the Great West Conference for four games at Texas-Pan American starting Friday night.
Utah Valley swept a four-game series last weekend against NYIT, winning the first three by a combined 42 runs before coming from behind in the finale to win 9-8. Billy Burgess singled home Kai Hatch with one out in the ninth inning to complete the sweep after UVU trailed six runs early on.
Hatch has a 13-game hitting streak heading into this week's action and is batting .542 during that stretch. He leads all Great West players with a .519 average in conference-only games.
Blake Krahenbuhl (4-3, 3.40) gets the start for UVU on Wednesday while the Redhawks (17-21) will counter with Brandon Kizer (5-4, 4.72). Friday's starter, Jeremy Gendlek, enters the weekend on 24 consecutive scoreless innings including a 3-0, 0.00 ERA in 23 innings during Great West play. The junior is 4-3 with a 1.92 ERA overall on the year.
Goose Kallunki leads all Great West players with 42 RBI and has driven in 25 in his last 11 games for the Wolverines. He had 11 runs batted in during the NYIT series including eight - four in each game - during Saturday's doubleheader.
Seattle and UVU split two games last year in Washington. The Redhawks won the first game 11-9 before UVU edged SU 2-1 in 12 innings the next day.
Texas-Pan American is 19-19 and 8-8 in the Great West entering the weekend after splitting four games at Houston Baptist last week. UVU leads the all-time series 4-0, sweeping a series in Orem during 2010.
