OREM, Utah - Utah Valley University baseball begins a three-game series at the University of Nevada on Friday afternoon from Peccole Park in what will be Nevada's home opener. The teams are scheduled to play Friday at 2 p.m. PT and Saturday and Sunday at 1 p.m. PT.Â

The Wolverines (1-3) lost a Tuesday midweek game at No. 8 Arizona, 12-6, after seeing a six-run sixth inning from the Wildcats make up for the difference in the contest. UVU scored three times in the first and led 5-1 after the top of the fourth before seeing the Pac-12 power come from behind and pull away late.Â

Goose Kallunki and Jake Rickenbach had three hits apiece with Kallunki and Kai Hatch both driving in two runs each. Kallunki is batting .471 to lead the team early on and newcomer Sean Moysh is hitting at a .421 clip. Both have hits in each game so far this season.Â

Nevada won its midweek at the University of San Francisco, 7-3, after taking two of three at New Mexico in the opening weekend. Friday starter Braden Shipley struck out seven in five shutout innings to get a win in his first start and Joe Kohan is 8-for-14 (.571) to start the year.

The Wolverines will head to Southern California next week for their first-ever series against national power Cal State Fullerton. The three-game series begins Friday, March 2 at 8 p.m. MT. All three games during the weekend can be heard live on 960 AM the Zone.
