OREM, Utah -- After playing its first 17 games away from Orem, including six against ranked opponents, Utah Valley University opens its 2012 home schedule against Sacramento State on Thursday at 6 p.m. MT. The teams will play a three-game series with Friday's first pitch also scheduled for 6 p.m. and Saturday's finale slated for noon. The Wolverines will play their next 11 games at Brent Brown Ballpark.

"Going into our homestand it's going to be great to be home and get a chance to play in front of our own fans," said head coach Eric Madsen.

UVU split a pair of two-game series' last week at then-No. 11 Arizona State and at Saint Mary's. After getting shutout in the opener against the Sun Devils, Jordy Hart led the Wolverines to a 9-6 upset over the Pac-12 power with a three-hit day that included two triples, five RBIs and three runs scored.

Hart, who was named the Great West Conference Player of the Week and to College Baseball 360's Primetime Performers list, tripled with the bases full in the second inning to give UVU an early 4-0 lead and had his second three-base hit with two on in the sixth. Josh Swenson tossed the final three innings and got the save on his way to sharing the GWC Pitcher of the Week award.

In the series at Saint Mary's, the Wolverines again dropped the opener before winning the second game. Preston Olson started and struck out a career-high nine as he and Swenson combined to shutout the Gaels in a 3-0 win. The series was originally scheduled for three games but was changed to a Sunday doubleheader because of rain in the Bay Area.

Sac State is in the midst of a 10-game, 10-day stretch and is 10-11 overall entering a contest at Utah on Wednesday. The Hornets have won five of six and three straight pending the game against the Utes. Rhys Hoskins leads the team with a .394 batting average, three home runs and 16 batted in.
