OREM, Utah -- With three Western Athletic Conference series remaining, Utah Valley University begins a key three-game set at New Mexico State beginning Friday at 6:05 p.m. in Las Cruces at Presley Askew Field. UVU will also play at New Mexico on Monday, May 5 at 1 p.m.

The Wolverines (19-23, 11-7), who have won four straight WAC games, had a overall five-game winning streak snapped on Tuesday against BYU, 6-4, in front of a crowd of 4,122 at Brent Brown Ballpark. UVU swept Northern Colorado in a league series last weekend. The Aggies (17-23, 8-7) dropped a 2-0 contest at Arizona State on Tuesday night after losing two of three at Grand Canyon in WAC play.

Both NM State and Utah Valley are bunched in a group of seven teams within three games in the loss column in the current conference standings. UVU is in third place, one game back of Grand Canyon and New Mexico State is tied for fifth with North Dakota. The top six teams, excluding transitioning school Grand Canyon, will compete in the WAC Tournament in Mesa, Arizona.

UVU and NM State have met in just one prior series, with the Aggies winning two of three in Las Cruces during the 2007 season.

New Mexico is 31-14-1 on the season and 14-7 in the Mountain West. The Lobos host San Diego State Fri-Sun in a three-game league series. New Mexico is 3-0 all-time against Utah Valley.

Next week, the Wolverines return home for the final series of the year at Brent Brown Ballpark when Seattle U visits Orem May 9-11.
