OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University opens its WAC home schedule this Thursday at 6 p.m. against Chicago State at Brent Brown Ballpark. The teams will also face off on Friday at 6 p.m. and Saturday at 11 a.m., in a game that was moved up one hour due to CSU's travel schedule.
Last weekend, the Wolverines (7-19, 3-3) two of three in a three-game conference series at CSU Bakersfield. UVU won the opener, 3-2, behind 8.2 innings from starter
Danny Beddes. Beddes gave up just one earned run (two total) on seven scattered hits while striking out six.
Greyson Bogden hit what turned into the game-winning RBI triple in the sixth inning.
Bogden was 5-for-9 on the weekend and also drove in both UVU runs in the middle game of the series, a 5-2 CSUB win. In the series finale, the Wolverines scored twice in the fourth -- with
Craig Brinkerhoff delivering an RBI triple -- and added another run with a
Mark Krueger home run in the fifth.
Chicago State split two WAC games with Grand Canyon during a weather-shortened series in the Windy City. The teams played a chilly, 34 degree doubleheader on Saturday with the Cougars (7-19, 1-4)Â taking the first game, 3-1, behind 8.0 innings from starter Eric Hall. CSU dropped the second game, 4-1, before the Sunday finale was canceled due to weather. The Cougars fell in a 7-2 contest to crosstown foe Northwestern on Tuesday.
UVU will play at BYU next Tuesday at 6 p.m. at Miller Park in Provo. The Wolverines will then host reigning regular season and tournament champion Sac State, which enters this weekend at 6-0 and travels to 5-1 Seattle U this weekend.
